Plastic Surgery

When we see the pictures of Jessica Alba, the woman with a golden ratio profile; Angelina Jolie, one of the most sexiest women in the world; David Beckham, the handsome British soccer player, and Brad Pitt, the renowned actor in the movie industry, the first idea that will bump into our mind must be: “They are so perfect and I want to be like one of them!” Indeed, it is without a doubt that we all like beautiful things and beautiful people innately and we try to make us as gorgeous as them. In order to be pretty or handsome, we try as best as we can to train our body, for instance, do exercises regularly to keep our body fit and slender or put on makeup to make ourselves rosy and energetic. Nevertheless, some people choose to undergo plastic surgeries rather than do exercises. On one hand, going through a surgery is much faster and effective than exercising. On the other hand, plastic surgery can change the inborn appearances; that is, it can change what we look like initially. For example, getting a nose job can transform the original snub flat nose into a brand-new Grecian nose and having a double eyelid surgery can alter the fact of single eyelids.
There are cases that people go to extreme in undergoing plastic surgery and we will take three recent cases as examples. Firstly, a 35-year-old Filipino designer, Herbert Chavez, goes mad in changing himself into a superman. As he himself told to the public, he adores superheroes since he was little. He has undergone plastic surgeries for nearly 90 times, from having his nose thinned out to get a cleft chin, having silicon injected for fuller lips to liposuctioning to flatten out his abdomen and implanting to bulk out his buttocks and hips. He has turned himself into a near-replica of his hero--- the superman. Secondly, a 21-year-old Ukraine model, Valeria Lukyanova, lives out her life-long obsession in becoming a real Barbie doll by enlarging her breasts, and taking away ribs to fit the super-sized boobs and Barbie’s extremely thin waist. More confusingly, it is said that after this girl has made fame throughout the world by going through so many surgeries, many young girls follow suit. Lastly, in Korea, a woman who was once a singer, also underwent this kind of surgery. She was totally unsatisfied the appearance herself even if lots of people thought she was pretty enough. She started to perform plastic surgery. However, things did not go well because something went wrong during the surgery. The woman found a doctor, who did not have a qualified license, to fix her face again and again and to her despair, she got even worse. At last, this insane woman injected the oil into her own face, believing that by doing this, her appearance could change to a better condition.
From the above examples, we could see that some people choose a morbid way to change their original appearance. However, is it really a good way even if the surgery goes perfectly? Here are some reasons that we take the stance of NO. Perhaps we should ask ourselves first, why do we want to undergo a plastic surgery? From the perspective of psychoanalysis, it is because we do not have confidence in our appearance. We think we are not good enough; moreover, we arouse the sense of inferiority and that is the main bare fact why people go through this distorted process so why we are against the plastic surgery? The reason is simple. Once the surgery fails, who will take the responsibility and all the consequences? Frankly speaking, what is done is done and we could never ever return to what we are like before. Another thing we have to think about is that when our appearances are ruined, can we bear the pressure that comes after? People will not only stare at us on the streets but mock on our terrible and weird face. Do we have the courage to take all the results? Our original idea is to build our confidence through our appearances by having the surgeries done; nonetheless, with the opposite situation, instead of retrieving our lost faith in ourselves, we destroy it utterly. Besides, are those plastic stuffs really safe? The answer is absolutely no! Putting something else into our bodies not only sounds terrible but also poses a great danger to our body. With other things being implanted or injected compulsively, our body would reject these alien objects and be hurt to a certain degree. We might get side effects like ulcer. Many women implant silicon into their breasts to enlarge them, yet, when the problem arouses, they are even threatened to death. Last but not least, once we’ve performed the operation, we must keep our face always in a good condition, even if it is an illusion of beauty. Hence, we will need to have our appearance and body examined frequently. This cycle has made us an addict; that is, we are obsessed with the plastic surgeries! We all know when things come to an extreme, they always bring horrible results and one of them is the expense problem. It is fairly expensive to go through a surgery. Just imagine we go to the doctor once a month, how much money do we need to pay for a year? Rather than spending a lot on surgeries, we could do a lot more meaningful things with that money. If we are not as rich as Bill Gates, why not try some practical ways to keep ourselves in a greater form? In that way, we could at least know for sure that we would not go bankruptcy on plastic surgeries!

To conclude, beauty equals to nature. Why even bother changing our appearances by undergoing plastic surgeries to cater to what others think of us? Instead of going through a surgery, to be more practical, exercising will benefit much more than we think. It can not only help us build a perfect figure, keep a healthy mind, and most important of all, maintain a positive mind. With positive thinking, everything is beautiful and perfect. Inner beauty is what matters!
